Hong Kong: 48 hours for Peace

Hong Kong, September 2nd , 2014

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

In response to the appeal of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and our Bishop, Cardinal Tong Hon, to offer prayers and sacrifices for Peace and for Christian communities under persecution, especially in Iraq, in our Parish “SS. Peter and Paul” we have organized “48 hours for Peace”, which included different prayer activities for these intentions.

From Saturday 23rd, 6 pm, to Sunday 24th, 5 pm, we have had the Eucharist Adoration in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. It was very edifying to see many parishioners praying in front of the Holy Host during the whole day and night.

On Sunday 24th, from 5.15 pm to 6.30 pm, both communities, i.e. Chinese and English, participated in a prayer service for Peace. We recited the Holy Rosary; we prayed and meditated following the Message of the Holy Father for the “World Day of Peace 2014”; and we ended the prayer service with the Evening Prayers. The prayer service was bilingual, in Chinese and English, and around 200 parishioners participated in it.

Finally, from Sunday 24th, 7 pm, to Monday 25th, 7 pm, we organized a Chain of Holy Rosaries. Parishioners recited the Marian prayer in the fixed time that they have chosen previously. Many of them came to the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament to pray the Rosary in community in front of Jesus, our strength and our peace.

This has been our small contribution to help our brothers and sisters who are suffering for our Faith in Christ. Two days after our “48 hours for peace”, we received with joy and thankful hearts the good news from Gaza (we keep praying that peace will last…!) and we hope the Lord will grant His Peace to the people of Iraq and to many other places where our brothers and sisters are suffering war and persecution. May the Lord have mercy on us all! May Mary, the Queen of Peace, intercede for us!

United in prayers,

Fr. Juan Francisco
